We finally got to bring all the great in-kind donations we’ve been storing in our closets and basement corners to their new home on Sunday. It’s so exciting to see the apartment filling up and taking shape. It’s really beginning to feel like a welcoming home. Thank you to everyone who came out to help move furniture, plan bedroom layouts and unpack dishes. With many hands and enjoyable company (and Tim-Bits to keep us fueled!) it was a breeze and we were done faster than we had planned. Next step is a quick trip to IKEA to pick up things like bedding and curtains to warm up the apartment.
As for the Syrian family who are still overseas, they have now completed the medicals and we are waiting for them to be sent to the Canadian Embassy. Once they have the medical files, they will call the family to have the Biometrics done (fingerprints, photos, etc). After that is complete, the International Organisation of Migration will be calling the family to make their travel arrangements, which of course includes an arrival date! We are looking at the end of February or beginning of March. Stay tuned!
